Google Pixel 1

Pixel 1 and Pixel 1 XL are a couple of Android smartphones that are designed, developed and marketed by Google as part of google Pixel's production line, succeeding the Nexus smartphone line. It was officially announced on October 4, 2016 at the Made by Google event and released in the United States on October 20. On October 4, 2017, pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL succeeded them.

Pixel 1 have an aluminum chassis, with a glass panel at the back, a USB-C connector, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 12.3MP rear camera. At launch, the devices featured some exclusive software features, including an Android "Nougat" 7.1 update, integration with Google Assistant's smart personal assistant, direct technical support services, and unlimited backups of full-resolution Google Photos throughout the device's life.
Pixels received mixed reviews, with praise for the performance of devices and cameras, but many critics noted similarities with Apple's iPhone line in terms of hardware design, and criticized Pixels' lack of waterproofing and high price.

Google previously co-developed leading Android devices with OEMs through the Nexus software, which is designed to be "reference" devices for the Android platform, but the devices retained similarities to other devices made by their partners. Rick Osterloh, former president of Motorola, joined Google as senior vice president of hardware in April 2016, and Google began developing an ecosystem of internal products and platforms, including google home smart speaker, smart personal assistant Google Assistant, and Google Daydream, Google's virtual reality platform. Announced on October 4, 2016, Pixels serves as Google's launch devices for Android 7.1"Nougat." Closer by Lemaitre Music was used in the device's primer.

"A lot of the innovation we want to do now ends up controlling the user experience from start to finish," Osterloh said in an interview with The Verge. The Verge wrote that Nexus has "accomplished its mission," with a Google spokesman stating that there are "no plans" to create another Nexus device. But he said that pixels are not based on any HTC device that exists.

In the US, Pixel 1 is exclusive to Verizon Wireless and Project Fi, but it is also available directly to the consumer via Google's online store in the UK, and is available directly to the consumer via the Google Online Store, and through EE and Carphone Warehouse. In India, it became available for pre-order from October 13 from Flipkart, Reliance Digital and Croma, with the general store available on October 25.

On October 4, 2017, Google announced pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones, replacing the original Pixel devices. Pixel 1 and Pixel 1 XL were removed from the Google Store and stopped on April 11, 2018.
